From Start to Finish
Do you have questions about how a website is built and what the
process is during the designing and building? You will find the
answers to these questions here. This page is a follow up to the
question and answers on our FAQ (Frequently asked
questions) page.
Once you have decided that, yes, you do want a website,
then you will need to answer a few questions so we can move forward
with the designing, building and publishing your new site to it's
new home on the web.
1. First, we recommend that you decide on a Domain
name. We can register it for you if you would rather or, we will
give you directions on how to do it yourself. The cost to register
a domain name is between $15.00 and $25.00 yearly, depending upon
the registrar used. More information on the where/why to buy a Domain
name is explained in our FAQ page.
2. Next, you should give us some examples of sites
that you find attractive and, if possible, links to those sites
so that we may get an idea of the styles you like. Filling out our
online questionnaire will help to answer some of these questions.
3. The next step is: Putting together your content.
This includes your logo (if you have one), graphics, photographs,
and text. I prefer to receive the content via email. One page at
a time so that I can copy and paste it into the pages exactly
the
way you want it. A web designer does not create the 'content' of
your site, that is your job, it is up to you to supply it. If
you
do not have a logo, now is the time to decide if you want one created
and, if so, give us some idea of how you want it to look. Logo
design is not included
in the web design price quotes. Logo design is an additiona extra
service.
4. Pricing will be determined at this point, by this
point we should have a better idea of your expectations and amount
and type of content to be included as well as having a contract
signed and first instalment payment due.
5. Consultation - this will determine the general
size and scope of your site, what will be needed to implement it,
and some design choices will be discussed. Layout of the material
will be discussed and agreed upon.
6. Next layout is decided upon. Once the layout has
been agreed upon; the navigational system, and how the content
will
be presented will be determined. Will there be a splash page? What
type of navigation will best suit this site? What fonts/colours/images/graphics
will be used? You will be able to view the progress each step of
the way on a test site. There is no need for you to worry about
these things as this is where our expertise on web design and design
principles comes into play.
7. We will create mock - ups of the design and consult
with you about it. At this point, the second installment payment
will be due.
8. Upon approval of the overall design and layout,
the content will be added. Testing on all browsers and platforms
will be conducted.
9. At this point a web host should be chosen and ready
to receive your new website. A good web host is extremely important.
There are many choices when it comes to web hosting I can help you
make this decision. We offer web
hosting to our clients at a very
reasonable cost. Now that your site is complete, and you are satisfied
with it, the next step is to upload (publish) it to the server.
10. Final installment payment will be due. Your site
will be uploaded to the server. Once the site has gone live, it
will be tested to make sure everything is working properly.
During the design and approval process, your site
will be viewable by only you so that you may work along with us
in the design/decision making process.
Included in the above is submission to 2000 search
engines. This allows that your site will be found during internet
searches.
